BROOKSDALE (Again)

Started by: mollie m (7140)

Hi everyone.

I don't usually like to resurrect old threads, but this company has raised its ugly head again, and this is part of the email I received today:

"I am writing to inform you that you may be due a substantial payout, in excess of £1,000, for any car finance agreements you have taken out prior to January 2021.

I am the Senior Auditor that was responsible for handling your tax claim, and as a matter of courtesy, I wanted to keep you informed of further opportunities to supplement your household income.

You may have recently seen the news about the car finance mis-selling scandal. It has been identified that car dealerships were receiving huge commissions from the finance lenders, which will have resulted in you being charged extra interest, and increased the amount you had to pay back."
====================================

For anyone who didn't read this original thread, one year ago almost exactly to the date, beware. Difference is, I haven't received a letter from HMRC this time.

I also remembered to read Anne's thread called HMRC Big Trouble, also in February last year about the same, or similar, thing.

Mollie there is an issue about car finance similar to PPI, do it yourself if affected and then only you get money.

No problem Mollie, I am watching with interest as I change my car every two years and once the outcome of the FCA's investigation is announced, I will see if I am affected.

Please let me know how you get on. I'll be the first to admit that I'm useless with anything financial, so any information you can give would be much appreciated.

Like most of us, if we get ripped off, we want to be compensated for it.

The last two cars I've had were paid for in cash, but previously (before 2021) I had a car on finance, so maybe I'll be entitled to a refund.

First time I ever bought a new car, it was on credit: interest free offer financed by LLoyds- Bowmaker, Turned out to be swings and roundabouts: unable to bargain the price down and still get the interest free loan.

Last time I bought a new car, was a cash purchase, and I had walked away from the deal. Two or three days later, call from their sales manager asking if I would reconsider buying from them, if he, "offered me a realistic price", which turned out to be FOUR GRAND less than best price I could negotiate with their sales team.

My dealer is currently offering cost price + £1, but as my car is 10 months old not biting.

I've just had another email from this company, which reads:

"I am writing to inform you that you may be due an additional tax refund of £3,629.00.

I am the Senior Auditor at Brooksdale that previously assisted you with your PPI Tax Claim. I have recently reviewed your file and believe you may be entitled to claim a refund for allowances relating to COVID, your employment, and your marital status.

We already have your details ready, so we simply need to double check that you qualify. To make things easy, we have set up an online form which only takes two-minutes to complete.

I must make you aware that the deadline to claim part of your refund is approaching, so I would encourage you to act today. Other customers have been receiving their refunds in as little as two weeks.

Click below to access your unique link."

Anyone got any thoughts on this one?

This was highlighted on a recent broadcast of the Martin Lewis Money Show. He brought it to attention at the beginning of the year but said he was still gathering information to see if would be pursued. Since then, he dedicated a full show to the issue, in February I think, and said the practice was widespread and would potentially be bigger than the PPI scandal. You don't need a specialist firm to take it up on your behalf, in fact the Martin Lewis website has a link that takes you through it. Enter your details, must be before January 2021 when the investigation started and the practice ceased, the claim is registered and then it's a wait to see the outcome of the FCA investigation. He did also say don't wait for this announcement, probably in September, register your claim NOW as it may get timed out. No need to get the ' No win, no fee ' men involved. Go on the website and have a look. I've personally registered 2 claims with 2 seperate maunfacturers, one French and one German. This may turn out to be a monster so get your claim/s in.

Thank you, Standisher.

I never know what to make of these things, but Angelwood put a link on regarding that Martin Lewis show you mentioned, so perhaps I will have a try.

By the way, you say in your post to make the claim before January 2021?

Edit: It's okay. I understand what you meant. Me not reading it properly.

Molliem I have registered 2 claims tonight through the Martyn Lewis website, as they advise not to wait till September as WN1 Standisher says. It's really simple to do.

Thanks, Angel. I'll definitely give it a whirl. Nothing to lose I suppose.
